Most people never think about their attic access door… until we run a blower door test. When your attic access is inside the conditioned part of the home, it becomes part of the building envelope. If it doesn’t seal well, you’re letting conditioned air escape into the attic and pulling hot, humid attic air into your living space. Everyone tells me, “The zipper seals just fine.” I agree. The zipper isn’t the problem. Watch where the smoke is actually being pulled in. This is why I prefer a Fakro attic ladder over an attic tent. The seal is at the insulated hatch itself instead of relying on a fabric enclosure attached to the drywall.
