ALOPECIA AREATA GIRLIES… I NEED YOU 😭 I’ve suddenly developed bald patches and I am officially entering the stage where I’m willing to try EVERYTHING… but before TikTok convinces me to spend £300 on oils, serums, vitamins and some magical scalp potion 😂 I NEED REAL EXPERIENCES. If you’ve had alopecia areata, PLEASE tell me: What ACTUALLY made your hair grow back? What did absolutely NOTHING? Did steroid injections/creams help? Rosemary oil? Minoxidil? Supplements? Red light? Scalp treatments? Did yours get worse before it got better? How long before you noticed regrowth? And the big one… DID IT COME BACK AGAIN? 😭 I want the stuff nobody tells you when this first happens. Give me your holy grails, your biggest wastes of money, your weirdest things that worked and everything you wish someone had told you at the beginning. REAL LIFE TRAINING = REAL LIFE RESULTS. There’s a reason I spend so much of my time training dogs out in the real world. Because your dog doesn’t live on a training field. They live in a world of busy streets, other dogs, livestock, cafés, visitors at the door, kids running around, wildlife appearing from nowhere, strange noises, exciting smells and situations you simply cannot predict. It’s easy to make training look good when everything is controlled. But what happens when the environment isn’t? Can your dog still hear you when another dog appears? Can they walk nicely through a busy town? Can they settle while life carries on around them? Can they recall when something far more interesting than you suddenly moves? Can they make good decisions when they’re excited, frustrated, nervous or overstimulated? That’s the training I care about. Of course we teach the foundations in quieter environments first. I’m not interested in throwing dogs in at the deep end and calling it “exposure”. But once those foundations are there, we gradually take them into the situations where those skills actually matter. Different environments. Different distractions. Different levels of pressure. Different pictures. Because dogs don’t automatically generalise something they learned in your kitchen to every situation they’ll ever encounter. A beautiful heel in an empty field is great. I want that same dog capable of walking through the real world with its owner. A recall with nothing happening around you is a starting point. I want a recall that has been proofed around the distractions that particular dog is genuinely going to encounter. And a dog that can settle perfectly at home still needs to learn how to regulate itself when the world gets busy. I don’t train for perfect training videos. I train for everyday life. The goal isn’t a robotic dog. It’s a dog that understands what’s expected, can think through situations, has confidence in its handler and has skills that actually transfer into normal life. Because ultimately, my clients aren’t paying me for their dog to behave for an hour during a training session. They’re paying me to help make the other 23 hours easier too. Real environments. Real distractions. Real expectations. Real life results. #dogtrainer #dogtraining #reallife #dog
