I am the niece of Ella Mae Begay from Sweetwater. Ella Mae, Tábąhá, has been missing since June 15, 2021. Her case showed us the gaps in our justice system. This resolution is to make sure no other Diné family goes through this. The "Ella Mae Act of 2026" asks for: 1. **No "No Body, No Plea"** - Families must consent before a plea is accepted 2. **No Statute of Limitations** when murder is suspected in missing cases 3. **Mandatory Banishment** of violent offenders from Navajo lands 4. **$5M Search Fund** so families don’t pay to find their relatives 5. **Audits & Accountability** when investigations fail I will be there to talk about the resolution and answer any questions. Yá'át'ééh shik'éí. Good morning relatives. It just feels so unreal. For 5 years I’ve seen failure after failure. In the courts. In the system. In rooms where I thought I’d have a voice. So I walked into Sweetwater Chapter yesterday expecting them to turn me down too. Bracing for another "no." But that’s not what happened. I had Ella Mae on my heart and fear in my throat. I didn’t know what I would walk into. But I walked into a room full of relatives. I walked into family who remember Ella Mae. Who loved her. Who miss her. Who said her name with me. Who told me to keep going. You want to know what really makes my heart happy? Running into people I met on prayer walks. That’s how I know prayers are still working. The Creator is bringing them back to me for a reason. The people who were there for me on the road are still here for me now. Sweetwater heard us. Sweetwater stands with the Ella Mae Act of 2026. Omg… I was trembling inside. My Diné bizaad got tangled on legal words. But my intention was clear…,, Bring our missing relatives home. So this never happens to another family again.
