Finally got my hands on my first bottle of Viva México, and this one had been on my list since our most recent trip to La Cava. I’d heard great things about the Viva México Madera Edición Still Strength Blanco, and after tasting it there, I understood the hype. Now that I’ve been able to spend a little more time with it at home, I can confidently say it does not miss. This is a limited-edition 54% ABV blanco from Destilería El Ranchito, NOM 1414, made by Maestro Tequileros Sergio Cruz and César Vivanco. Estate-grown agave is cooked in brick ovens, then undergoes an eight-day open-air fermentation with agave fibers in traditional pine vats using wild yeast, before being double distilled in copper pots. “Madera” is a reference to those wooden fermentation vats. And that production shows up in the glass. Big cooked agave, citrus and tropical fruit, with plenty of intensity and complexity at 108 proof. This is exactly the kind of high-proof blanco I love. I’ve become a huge fan of what the Vivanco family, Sergio Cruz and the team at NOM 1414 are doing. There’s a distinctive character to the tequila coming out of this distillery, and I keep finding myself drawn back to it. If you haven’t explored NOM 1414 yet, you’re missing out. For those who have, what’s your go-to bottle coming out of NOM 1414? 👇 #ThreeSipSociety #VivaMexicoTequila #NOM1414 #Tequila #sergiocruz

Picked up this beauty today at Riverton Party Store. They continue to have one of the most impressive tequila selections around, and I always appreciate finding bottles like this close to home. This one is getting saved for a special occasion, but I can’t wait to open it up. I’ve wanted to add a Fuenteseca to the collection for a while. Enrique Fonseca is one of the most fascinating producers in tequila, and his approach to aging is unlike almost anything else out there. This Cosecha 2014 is a blend of pot and column-distilled tequila aged for seven years in a combination of Hungarian and French oak. That willingness to experiment with different distillation methods, types of oak, and extended maturation is a big part of what makes Fuenteseca so unique. Seven years is a long time for tequila to spend in a barrel, and I’m excited to eventually experience how Fonseca balances all that influence from the wood and time with the agave underneath it. For now, this one is headed to the Three Sip Cellar until the right occasion comes along. #Fuenteseca #EnriqueFonseca #ExtraAñejo #RivertonPartyStore #threesipsociety

This past weekend, we put our new Solo Blind to work, and it may quickly become one of our favorite ways to spend a Saturday night. Just the two of us, sitting back, looking, smelling, tasting, and dissecting some incredible tequila without knowing what’s in the glass. Then this week, we received a surprise we never expected. A few weeks ago, we celebrated some of the incredible women who are shaping the tequila industry. In putting that tasting together, we were fortunate to connect with so many amazing women who generously shared their knowledge, stories, and passion with us. This week, Los Aromas del Tequila unexpectedly arrived at our door. Something we had hoped to get our hands on someday, but certainly weren’t expecting. And tucked inside was a beautiful handwritten note from Ana María Romero. That made an already incredible gift even more special. Developing our ability to identify and understand aroma has been one of the areas we’ve really been working on as we continue learning about tequila. There’s a big difference between knowing you smell something and being able to slow down, identify it, understand it, and connect it back to what’s in the glass. We cannot wait to put this incredible gift to work and continue taking our tastings to the next level. So incredibly grateful.
