Egg Bowl 1946 Ole Miss vs Mississippi State Oxford, Mississippi I was able to get this footage from the Trusty family who attended the game that day, which was a prominent family in Water Valley in the early to late 1900s. The Mississippi State Maroons (Bulldogs) won that day in a shutout. 20 to 0 Here’s little information on the teams: Ole Miss Rebels: In 1946, Ole Miss was a struggling team and their record showed it. They ended their season 2-7 (1-6 Sec). Harold Drew was the head coach and only stayed one season. The stadium in the footage was built in 1915 and at the time was know as “Hemingway Stadium” and could seat 24,000 people. Its first upgrade happened in 1950 and the latest update was in 2016. It now seats 64,038 people. Johnny Vaught would be hired the next year and completely turn the program around winning an SEC Title and finishing ranked No. 13 in the nation in 1947. Mississippi State Maroons (Bulldogs): In 1946, The Maroons had a much better season than the Rebels, finishing 8-2 (3-2 Sec). Allyn McKeen was in his 7th year as head coach and would coach two more season at Mississippi State. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1991. The stadium in Starkville at the time was know as Scott Field was built in 1914 and could seat 20,000 at the time of the footage. It now can seat 61,377 All of these films were silent and sound was added to them through Thompson Studios #vintage #footage #rarefootage #olemiss #mississippistate #eggbowl #thompsonstudios #mississippi #history #football #bulldog #rebels #landshark #fromdixiewithlove #marchingband #1940s #8mmfilm #film #digitalconversion #vaughthemingwaystadium #rival #rivalry #colorfilm #homemovie
