There comes a point where you stop making excuses for someone's behaviour and have to accept the painful truth. I cannot understand how a mother can so easily walk away from not only her own child, but her four grandsons. She has their mobile numbers. She knows where they are. Yet there is no call, no message, no effort. Nothing. This is the same woman who filled my childhood with lies, manipulation and abuse. I told myself that maybe, just maybe, she would be different with my boys. Instead, she has shown them the same rejection she showed me. What hurts even more is watching her happily play the devoted grandparent to my nieces and nephews, while my boys are treated as though they simply don't exist. No child should ever have to wonder why they weren't enough. I often find myself asking, Why? Why didn't I get the loving mum so many people take for granted? Why do my children have to experience this kind of rejection too? Thankfully, I know what unconditional love looks like because I had my Grannie Nevin and my Granddad. Their home was filled with warmth, laughter, the smell of fresh baking, and a love that never had to be earned. They made me feel safe, cherished and wanted every single day. Those memories are among the greatest gifts I've ever been given. It breaks my heart that my boys don't have that kind of grandmother. But they do have something else—they have people who choose them. Friends who have become family. People who love them because they want to, not because they have to. Blood doesn't make someone a parent or a grandparent. Love does. Effort does. Presence does. The trauma of having a mother like this is something that stays with you. It shapes you in ways that are difficult to explain. But it also teaches you exactly what you never want your own children to feel. So while she may have chosen not to be part of our lives, I choose something different. I choose love. I choose honesty. I choose to make sure my boys grow up knowing they are valued, wanted and deeply loved. That cycle ends with me. #abuse #grandparent #hate #myworld #why
