So, I spent almost half a decade as AAA gaming QA, and MUCH longer as a Hellraiser fan, and degenerate industrial music fan / “alternative lifestyle” person - and this game has something for all of those! Anyway. Some thoughts after a little bit of time with it! 1. Looks great, especially for a 40$ game. Properly spooky and gooey. Sunny looks a LOT like Nico in Midnight Suns, which is incredibly disturbing to me 🫠 A LOT of effort went into the environments. Big ups to whoever worked on dirtying up the floors. Pretty sure a lot of the wall art is AI. Get used to that being a thing. 2. That’s a lot of dong and nipple pasties! Also, BDSM types are of course, nothing like the gimp suited weirdos in the game. But they’d be way cooler if they were. Subcultures are hard to get right, but it’d be cool if it felt a little more authentic / inspired. Also it’s funny they have a basic fucking rabbit as some sort of sign the characters are SUPER FREAKY PERVERTS. 3. Some of Pinhead’s lines seem pretty fucking out of character, in service of explaining things to the player. But I’m very early. Doug Bradley is great as always. 4. Had a bunch of problems with the PS5 disc install. Maybe some mastering issues? It was a PUZZLE just to get the fucking thing installed. 5. Enemies are very bullet spongey, very little hit stun or reaction when being shot in the face. Melee is sort of clunky. It’s all serviceable. UI elements are confusing and not great 🤷 Overall - I like it! Of course, I’m literally the target market for a Hellraiser game. It’s shocking it exists, and I hope Saber grabs the license to some other classic horror titles. Or someone does! Rating so far: 8/10 pierced dongs.
