For a long time… my personal brand helped me. It opened doors. It made me money. It gave me credibility. I was “the UX guy.” And honestly... I was proud of that. But what I didn’t realise at the time is that the same thing that helped me grow… also started quietly holding me back. Because once people know you for something, you start living inside that identity. You keep feeding it. You keep saying yes to it. You keep staying in your lane... not because you love it… but because it works. And the problem is… it’s hard to let go of something that’s working. Especially when it’s attached to your reputation. So even when I started changing internally... I didn’t fully admit it. Over the last few years I realised I wasn’t obsessed with design anymore. I still love it… but it isn’t what lights me up. What I actually love is building products. Planning features. Solving problems. Talking to customers. Thinking about distribution and marketing. Shipping. Iterating. Improving. That’s what I’d be doing even if nobody knew my name. But my “UX guy” brand was so strong that it almost made that feel… illegal? Like I’d confuse people. Like I’d disappoint people. Like I’d be throwing away the thing that made me successful. And that’s the trap of personal branding. Sometimes you don’t stay in the thing because you love it… You stay because you’re scared of what happens when you leave it. So I’m letting it go. Not because it was wrong. But because it’s not where my heart is anymore. And I’d rather build the next chapter @choppityapp of my life doing what I genuinely love… than spend another 10 years protecting an identity I’ve already outgrown. #contentcreator #contentcreation #startup
Week 4 update: Progressing with pain This week I got intense dry needling for a hip issue I’ve had for 2 years… and my nervous system absolutely freaked out. • Quads + hammies destroyed. • Couldn’t train Muay Thai. • But weirdly… my hip feels better than it has in a long time. With @choppityapp - 2026 is off to a great start 🚀 • Traffic is climbing steadily (but also rapidly?) • Paid subscribers up ~10–20% MoM • 2 months of heavy backend/performance upgrades And this week we shipped our first BIG customer feature: post + schedule clips directly to YouTube 🎬 TikTok, Instagram, LinkedIn, X + Facebook posting is coming very soon. Next up: clip analytics + major upgrades to the editor experience. Building while healing. Shipping while limping 😅 That's it for this week!
Want to get paid from content? Stop chasing “more views.” You either entertain or you educate—and the monetization math changes fast. • Entertainment = bigger audience = more merch + general sponsors. • Education = smaller audience = higher-quality leads. • Sponsors pay more when your niche is specific. • When one product starts selling? Don’t distract yourself—build vertical extensions. Are you an entertainer or an educator? Drop your niche. #ContentMonetization #CreatorTips #TikTokBusiness
