It’s kinda like people don’t even want to really acknowledge him? Yk like when ppl pretend as if they don’t see homeless people. In that same way like it’s hard to see someone like him in such poverty but Paul doesn’t have any sympathy in him. He knows that just as well as knowing Tim is full of it too. In the fic it’s inferred Tim has in the past and currently sh. But that part of him is still left yk “extra” it boils over into anger and things like it’s again inferred he purposely gets Paul to harm him in place of sh. But Tim kinda tries to cover up just how insecure he is. And he ultimately thinks that if he can maintain that facade then he will win true closeness/love/affection with others. Like his greatest want in this life is to be loved or at minimum liked. And if not liked then at least acknowledged. He wants to MAKE people notice him so they can’t look away and pretend And then we have Missy (my oc) she and Tim are familiar enough that she knows the ends and outs of his childhood-adolescence. She knows how ostracized, neglected, villainized, etc he was until it kinda just came to fruition. But still Tim “lies” even through his vulnerability in trying to claim he’s not so insecure and sensitive as he is. Ngl as an older southern white woman I don’t think she really would have considered on her own outside of getting to know Tim JUST how much a person’s race/class/etc can truly set the tone for the rest of their life. Like she kinda can’t just live in her bubble At the same time, Tim refuses to take accountability too. Sure he can blame his parents for bringing him into the world—mixed race at that— and how they raised him and his siblings. He can blame Darry for being a shit friend in his mind. He can blame Dallas for encouraging and feeding into his self destructive nature and leaving Tim to pick himself up alone. Or socs of Paul himself maybe just those higher class in general. He could even blame Missy for not getting involved in his life more as the closest he has to a parental figure.
