📍 How to stay in the zone 📍 I’d argue that best way is to just not worry about it 🤷🏻‍♂️ I feel like the fixation a lot of runners have on zone 2 is one of the more damaging outcomes of the current “optimization” trend. Everyone wants to know their heart rate, and their sleep score, and their “readiness.” If you tacked on star sign and horoscope, you’d have the complete package! While they can totally give a better understanding of how things are trending, these measures can be a slippery slope down the path of majoring in the minors when “close enough” would serve the vast majority of runners super well. I don’t think runners should be using HR as a prescriptive tool mostly because there are so many factors, internal and external, that could impact what your watch or monitor shows you. And regardless of what it shows, there’s nothing magical about any one HR zone. There’s no on/off switch for physiological adaptations. The most important determinant of you becoming a better runner is whether or not you consistently get the work in — If an easy run feels comfy & sustainable, you pass ✅ If a threshold run is a controlled challenge, you pass ✅ If a hard run makes you question it all, you pass ✅ Be an advocate of carefree running 👍 - Evan 🫶 #zone2 #running #heartrate #easyrun #physicaltherapy

On my restrictions Our diets should be different, which is why I never recommend one eating style over another (except carnivore, can’t recommend). Access, preferences, goals—they all change your approach to food, so my main point with videos like this is to show that it may be okay to eat MORE if your lifestyle demands it. Because I didn’t get this messaging. I lived the majority of my personal health journey hiding behind questions like: “Do you know how many calories that is?” “Did you cook this in oil?” “Is this lean or regular?” “Could I get veggies instead of rice?” I say hiding, because knowing the answers to questions like that brought security. I thought it was security against looking a certain way, but I think it was security against admitting that restriction was easier than finding a balance, at least in the short term. I didn’t see how food that wasn’t high-protein and low-calorie could fit into a life trying to be “lean and active.” The body I wanted and the confidence that came with it could only be found on a plate of chicken, broccoli, and lots of hot sauce… Luckily, that mindset has done a big ole U-turn. Now I’m more interested in what this body can do, how it can show up to big goals, and keep moving forward. And, ironically, you could say I’ve found that on a plate too, only this one has way more carbs and fun stuff on it. #disorderedeating #foodlover #enduranceathlete #runningfuel #physicaltherapist
