Congaree National Park is home to the tallest trees on the entire East Coast, with loblolly pines officially measured at over 160–170 feet tall. Seasonal flooding delivers nutrient-rich sediment that fuels extreme growth without harming the trees, creating ideal conditions year after year. Because the forest escaped large-scale logging, it remains the largest intact old-growth floodplain forest in the United States, and its unusual growth patterns still draw scientists who study why Congaree breaks normal forest models. #cola #sc #congaree #congareenationalpark

The South Carolina Lizard Man legend began in 1988 near Scape Ore Swamp and quickly grew beyond a single encounter. Reports spread across nearby counties, with different witnesses describing the same tall, reptile-like figure seen near isolated roads and wetlands. Despite investigations, no capture or explanation ever followed—only damaged cars, repeated sightings, and a stretch of swamp locals still avoid after dark. #cola #sc #lizardman

Lake Marion covers more than just water — beneath it lie the remains of Rimini, the only formally recognized town fully displaced by the Santee Cooper Project. While multiple communities, farms, churches, and cemeteries were flooded, Rimini was the only town entirely erased. Today, traces like old roadbeds, fence lines, and partial foundations still rest below the lake, quietly marking where a living town once stood. #cola #sc #lakemarion #rimini
