Unusual Animals in Iowa #3 A Moose. A moose was reported in Marshall and Tama counties during the late 1970s or early 1980s, but it was illegally taken and then in the late 1980s and early 1990s, there were reports of another wandering moose in Iowa. One notable instance involved a moose spotted in the Spirit Lake area. Unfortunately, this particular moose met a tragic end when it broke through the ice on East Lake Okoboji and drowned. It's not common for moose to appear in Iowa, but occasionally, young bulls from northern Minnesota do wander into the state. Unlike secretive animals like mountain lions or wolves, moose tend to stand out, especially in harvested crop fields. These sightings add an interesting twist to Iowa's wildlife history! My family and I saw a moose in Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming on one of our many vacations. I used the song from Yellowjackets called No Return for my TikTok because Natalie saw a white moose and then she saw another moose in the lake where she thought she could have pulled it out with the help from everyone but it was a failed attempt. It would have been a great food source.

Unusual Animals in Iowa #2 An Armadillo. (1) Unusual Animals in Iowa #2 An Armadillo. There are different species of Armadillo but the one that is most common that is in the United States is the Nine-banded armadillo as you see here. Two have been found in Marshall County, Iowa located in the Northeastern part of the state. They were both dead. So if anybody sees one alive in Iowa, please let me and James Coffey know at James.Coffey@dnr.iowa.gov. Let me know on my tiktok video of the armadillo. Armadillos are not native to Iowa, but a few have been spotted in the state in recent years. They have been slowly migrating north, although it's unlikely they can survive Iowa's winters. Armadillos can cause property damage and fencing can help stop this but chances are you wouldn't be allowed to kill them in certain states. Yes, it is possible to kill an armadillo with a pellet gun, especially with well-placed shots to vital areas. However, it is important to check local regulations and ensure that using a pellet gun to kill an armadillo is legal in your area. In Texas, it is still illegal to kill armadillos for sport or for meat. There are no specific regulations regarding killing armadillos in Iowa but it would likely not be a good idea. In my opinion I would remove them safely and humanely. And no DNR in this case doesn't mean Do Not Resuscitate, it means Department of Natural Resources in this situation. Armadillos have been spotted in Iowa, They are expanding northward from Mexico and have been tracked by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, but like I said, they are not native to Iowa #Armadillos #Iowa #Texas #Mexico.
