That sign says National Register, circa 1796. Actually, the records tell us some part of this home was standing before 1796. At the very youngest, she dates to 1805. Can you imagine the stories these walls could tell? Then there's the parterre garden. Look down on it from above and it's shaped like the Union Jack. Earl Hart Miller gave it that grand treatment during the last major renovation before we came along. We still have plenty of yard work ahead of us, but when it isn't winter, it feels like we're living somewhere on the Mediterranean. My favorite part is that bronze statue. It's life size, and my husband made it in Italy. It's the first statue he has ever done. Not a bad way to start, is it? Some people collect stamps. We collect centuries. 🌿 Part two takes you around the other side, so stay tuned. #natchez #historichome #oldhouse #garden #gardentok @Tammy Pack

My husband Wes made our bullfighter himself in Florence, Italy, and if you look closely, he looks an awful lot like his maker. Then check out the details. Holly leaves cover the whole suit for Holly Hedges. Our HH logo is on his back. All of our kids' names are worked into the bronze, our kitties Coco and Frank are on there too! We'll do a separate video soon and walk you through every little detail explained by Wes himself. From the garden you can see the back of our house, our bedroom in the middle, and the back guest room. Which part do you want to see next? #natchez #bronze #sculptures #sculptureart #oldhouse

The kitchen is where we made the biggest change at our second home called Holly Hedges in Natchez, MS. And y'all, it was overdue! We started with a tiny breakfast room and a small kitchen that had been carved out of an old porch. It had linoleum floors, and a microwave on a cabinet shelf under the vent hood! If this house is going to last another 200 years, it has to work for the way people live today. Everybody wants to hang out in the kitchen, and ours was dark and closed off. So we made the hard call to take down the wall. The original fireplace anchors the whole room. There's a huge soapstone island, quartzite on the perimeter because our awesome designer Betsey Mosby insisted on natural stone in an old home, and a built-in refrigerator so it all blends in. It's where our family gathers every day and where we entertain. Two hundred years old, and finally a kitchen people want to be in. #natchez #oldhouse #oldhome #kitchenremodel #kitchendesign
