I was a busybody at Alcorn… 😂 not the Bible kind. I wanted to be part of EVERYTHING. But one of my favorite things was FCA. In 2001–2002, I was trying to make sense of life through faith, sports, and love. Sports made God make sense to me—the discipline, the losses, the comebacks. And yes, I was a little biased toward football because that was my favorite. 😂 Back then, Love by Musiq Soulchild and God’s Grace by Trin-i-tee 5:7 stayed in my spirit. They taught me something I still believe: love is easy to say and much harder to live. Looking back, I poured so much love into everybody else when I needed to pour more of it into me too. But what makes me smile now is that, even all these years later, people still tell me about loving moments they remember having with me. Not a title. Not an outfit. Not whether I was doing everything “right.” A moment where they felt seen, encouraged, or loved. To hear that over and over again means more to me than anything. Because if that’s what people carried with them, then maybe I really was living the part of my faith that mattered most. I loved people for real. 💜💛 #MixtapeMonday #ByGodsGrace #AlcornState #FCA #HBCU

🏈💜💛 A little third-quarter encouragement from an Alcornite alumna! A lot of us Alcorn alumni are in the third quarter of this game called life. Some of our peers are already in the fourth. One thing I’ve learned is when life starts beating up on you, sometimes you lose your enthusiasm, lose focus and start making more mistakes than you did in the first half. But let me tell y’all something. Don’t abandon your game plan just because you don’t like the scoreboard! You can adjust your game plan, change your strategy or even call a timeout when you need one. That doesn’t mean you have to give up on the game. See, when we sit in those stands watching our Braves, we want them to WIN! But sometimes we forget that what looks like a loss to us might actually be progress to the players. A team that was losing by 100 might now be losing by 10. A team that was losing by 10 might now be losing by ONE! That’s still progress! Everybody’s victory ain’t gonna look the same. Life is no different. So to the players, KEEP RUNNING YOUR PLAYS! Learn from your mistakes, make your adjustments and don’t let the amount of time you THINK you have left convince you that it’s too late to make a comeback. To the spectators, KEEP CHEERING FOR YOUR TEAM (IN SPORTS AND IN LIFE)! Yes, get frustrated! Hold them accountable! Tell them where they need to improve! But don’t get so caught up in what they’re doing wrong that you forget to encourage them to keep doing something right! Sometimes all somebody needs is to know they still have somebody in the stands cheering for them. Win or lose, KEEP CHEERING! To everybody still out there playing this game called life, KEEP GOING! The game ain’t over until it’s over! 🏈💜💛 Now, I would’ve preached that and added a few scriptures to it if I was still your FCA chaplain 😂😂 but I’m not, so apply it wherever it fits! #AlwaysAlcorn #BravesNation #PlayTillTheEnd
