They began arriving in the cool, predawn hours on Friday to line up for seats at the Oncenter in downtown Syracuse, where later that evening President Donald Trump was scheduled to speak at a rally in support of gubernatorial candidate Bruce Blakeman. At least 2,500 of Trump’s most arduous supporters filled downtown Syracuse for much of Friday to hear the president’s primetime stump speech ahead of the November midterms. They came from Syracuse’s suburbs, Buffalo, and as far as New Jersey and Pennsylvania. They shared an unshakeable faith in a president whose popularity has wavered nationwide, but has remained incredibly resilient with the base that has twice propelled him to the nation’s highest office. 📽️: Steve Featherstone, Chloe Trofatter, Katrina Tulloch

A developer is considering transforming the old Remington Arms complex in a tiny Upstate New York village into a data center. The possibility has upended the tiny town. Voters in June elected a write-in candidate for mayor after he criticized putting a massive data center in the village. Three other trustees were ousted or resigned, leaving only one board member from a year ago. Some residents worried they’d been deliberately kept in the dark about Remington’s future. Several local officials signed NDAs with the developer. Similar projects are being debated in other small New York towns like Massena, Lansing and Alabama. But the anxiety in Ilion is super-sized because of Remington’s history and its location in the center of the village. It looms over the McDonald’s, the police station, the theater club and just about everything else. Decisions made now will define the village for generations. The tax revenues that data centers could bring are potentially game-changing for local governments. But the virulent opposition to them is political dynamite. When two men Border Patrol was trying to detain escaped onto the roof of an Oswego home late last month, federal agents asked for a ladder. Oswego firefighters obliged and placed the ladder on the house. Oswego police officers also responded, standing between agents and protesters. At times, officers ordered protesters to back off. Now, the state Attorney General’s Office is looking into the standoff. The AG’s Office has requested police body camera footage, 911 recordings, police incident reports and other information to help review the incident, Oswego Mayor Robert Corradino said in a statement. It is illegal in New York state for local officers to help federal agents with non-criminal immigration enforcement actions. But Corradino said he does not believe the city or its employees violated any federal, state or local laws during the standoff. Tap the link in our bio to read the full story.
