On May 1, 2026, the Studio Museum in Harlem invites you to “Fade,” the sixth installment of our renowned “F” show series. The previous “F” shows, “Freestyle” (2001), “Frequency” (2005–06), “Flow” (2008), Fore (2012–13), and “Fictions” (2017–18), have come to be known as landmark exhibitions in the recent history of contemporary art. Featuring seventeen early-career artists who live and work across the United States, “Fade” reflects the concerns of a new generation. Working across disciplines, the artists in this exhibition embrace feeling, spirituality, and nonlinear conceptions of time. Through sculptural and visual interventions that foreground ancestry, spaces of refuge, land as archive, grief, and the surreal, Fade locates the in-between as a space of resistance. Experience artist Kapwani Kiwanga’s “BLEED.” “BLEED” features motifs sourced from the Underground Railroad’s history—particularly a pattern of triangles called the “flying geese” that was purported to guide people north. Expanding on this encrypted language and Black traditions of knowledge sharing, Kiwanga transposes the pattern into black, blue, and crimson undulations. Visit the Museum today and discover Kiwanga’s “BLEED” today through the link in our bio.
