For those who are new here, welcome. 💙 This is Ezra. Ezra is 8 years old and is autistic with a high level of support needs, ADHD, a learning disability, and sensory processing differences. He is currently taking atomoxetine. Right now, he is starting to understand more about the world around him. I can see that comprehension growing. But impulsivity is still very real. Sometimes, he knows something is dangerous… but he can’t stop himself. He might run. And even when we call him, he tries to stop — but his body keeps going. Road safety is one of our biggest challenges. That’s why we use reins, especially in new or unpredictable places. At his specialist school, they are actively working on safety awareness with him. And I can see the progress coming home. For example, walking from the taxi to our house — I used to have to hold him the whole time. Now, I can let him walk… and he goes home safely. That is huge for us. In familiar places, we sometimes give him more freedom. Because he is learning. Slowly, but truly. But until that understanding becomes consistent… we hold on. The harness we use is from @my_bigger_harness, and it has been essential for us — giving him the chance to explore the world, safely. Because safety comes before independence.
