Doesn’t get any better than this one. #TeachingTime #TeachingClock #TellingTheTime #TutoringTips #TeachingTips
Clocks are very inconsistent, overwhelming and confusing for students when they’re first first start learning to tell the time. Rarely do you get two clocks that are the same, for starters. Many clock faces are very “busy”. It’s so hard for our students to “know what to look at” or where to even begin when trying to figure out what the time is. Many students actually never successfully learn to tell the time. Which is such a pity, as it’s not hard - if you do it right. - follow the three steps - use a really good teaching clock ⏰ The number one priority needs to be - remove the confusion BY teaching your students that the FIRST thing they need to do when looking at a clock is work out WHICH HAND is the BIG (minute) hand. That is the starting point. That helps them zoom in on what’s important, to dismiss everything else and focus on that TO START WITH. ⏰ For more information, video clips and a free click download, we have blog posts on our website about teaching the time. We also have a really good teaching clock for beginners available on our website to purchase should you need. #TeachingTime #TeachingClock #TellingTheTime #TutoringTips #TeachingTips
You may come across some sites or approaches that advocate you should teach the hour hand (the little hand) first - when students are learning to tell the time. ⏰ I don’t agree. I always teach my students to think BIG hand first. Yes, I also teach it as the minute hand, but initially as many of my students have learning difficulties, I find it much easier (and effective) for my students if I call it the big hand. When students KNOW they need to look for the big hand, it makes looking at an often very overwhelming and sometimes confusing clock face much easier. It simplifies it. It gives them the starting point. Then they need to ask “where is it?” Then they ask where do I start counting from. It’s three easy steps. For more detail and specifics we have two blog posts for you (on our website). What hand do you teach first when teaching the time? It’s the BIG (minute) hand. Happy time teaching. #LearningToTellTheTime #TeachingTheTime #TeachingTime #TeachingClock #TutoringTips
