We almost quit @Gizmo The Grey Bird channel. After learning more about the global parrot trade, we had to ask ourselves a hard question: Were we helping people love parrots… or were we accidentally creating more demand for them? Gizmo has brought joy, hope, and laughter to so many people, and that matters deeply to us. But we couldn’t keep posting cute videos without also talking about the reality behind parrot ownership, rescue, adoption, and the birds still being taken from the wild. That’s why we started Squawk Global. Not to shame people. Not to judge people. But to use this platform differently. To shift the message from: “I want one.” to: “How can I help?” This mission started with uncomfortable conversations — including this one with Rene Ebersole from WIRE — and it has grown into something bigger than we ever imagined. Episode 14 is out now. Link in bio. 🦜 #SquawkGlobal #GizmoTheGreyBird #AdoptDontShop #ParrotRescue #ParrotAwareness

Some rescues require previous bird experience before someone can adopt, and we understand why. Parrots are complex. They are loud, emotional, intelligent, long-lived animals with very specific needs. But experience alone does not always mean someone is the right fit. As the founder of Greta’s Roost Parrot Rescue shared, someone can have birds for 20 or 30 years and still be unwilling to learn, update their care, or listen to new information. And sometimes, a beginner who asks questions, shows up to events, seeks out trusted resources, joins parrot communities, and keeps learning can be the better choice. Because good guardianship is not just about how many years you’ve had birds. It’s about humility. Curiosity. Effort. And a genuine commitment to doing better. The best adopters aren’t always the most experienced. They’re the ones willing to keep learning. 🦜 #SquawkGlobal #ParrotPodcast #ParrotRescue #ParrotEducation #ParrotAdvocacy
