America’s first flying car will land on Route 66 for the Centennial Celebration at the Route 66 Road Fest presented by AAA. Visitors will have the chance to see flight demonstrations, hear firsthand accounts from the pilots, learn how the aircraft flies, and discover how flying cars are moving from science fiction toward reality. The flying car is the BlackFly, a vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft designed for everyday people. It's an all-electric flying car that takes off vertically, and requires no runway. If you can drive a car and handle a video game joystick, you have the basic skills necessary to learn to fly. Leading the adventure are father-and-daughter aviation pioneers John and Heather Chirtea, frequently referred to as "the real-world Jetsons." Heather Chirtea is the first female consumer flying car pilot and owner in the United States, and John is currently the oldest. Together, they share real-life stories from the skies, helping people understand how flying cars are moving from science fiction into reality. Five pilots are touring the nation on The Soar Tour where they share the glory of flight with everyone. For 100 years, Route 66 has represented freedom, adventure, and the American road trip. This summer, as the Mother Road celebrates its centennial, visitors will get a glimpse of what the next 100 years of transportation may look like.
