„a magpie's demise“ 2026 acrylic on canvas, by yours truly !! #art #draw #artist #paint #acrylicpaint

finally found the confidence to paint this ! „A Magpie's Demise“ 2026 acrylic on canvas, 60 x 60cm by yours truly ! — I’ve come up with the idea for this painting in january of 2023, at a time when I was spending almost every day riding my bike in order to battle my agoraphobia. on these trips I’ve built a greater appreciation for nature & all of its inhabitants. one of those was the beautiful ‘thieving’ magpie! I’ve been fascinated with them ever since I was little, & I remember trying to catch one in the act of stealing some sort of coin, piece of jewelry, or spoon. I didn’t know back then that they don’t actually go looking for sparkling objects… one day, as I was riding through a forest, I got the idea of a bird catching a worm, but with the worm somehow fighting back by wrapping its body around the bird’s throat in a knot (not a very pleasant sight). I then expanded on this idea by switching out the random bird for a magpie & the worm for a silvery necklace. it came almost naturally to me to call the project ‘a magpie’s demise’. however, I didn’t feel comfortable just painting an animal choking itself in pain. so instead of it choking, I decided to paint the magpie as it tries to open its wings, but ultimately fails to do so, due to it being all caught up in different necklaces that it had once so proudly stolen. this iteration seemed a lot more fun to paint, with all the different necklaces giving me the opportunity to add loads of detail, & the pose of the magpie opening its wings giving me the chance to make it all look a lot more dramatic, as I was trying to portray the agony. I felt like this was the best way for me to show how people may get caught up in their greed, but you let me know how you feel about it! I carried this idea around for 3 years because I didn’t feel confident enough in my abilities as a painter to properly convey this vision. but I finally found the courage to give it a shot! and I want to say that I’m very happy I did :) this genuinely might be one of my favourite things I’ve ever done! - si #art #draw #painting #acrylic

SKULLPANDA-inspired, custom card design I made for my girl ! after receiving the most wonderful gift I had to return the favor & worked up this puppet design in the signature style of skullpanda figurines. she happens to be a huge fan of them & I felt like it would be a great gesture to draw her in a similar design, carrying both her essence, aswell as the style of @skullpandaz mini figures.
