One of the easiest ways to make your paintings feel more natural is learning to look for the hidden colors inside the shadows. One of the easiest things to miss during a painting demonstration isn't on the canvas... It's on the brush. I pay just as much attention to how the brush is prepared as I do to the brushstroke itself. How much paint is loaded? Was excess paint removed? Did the artist add medium? Those little decisions often explain why the brushstroke worked. Sometimes the biggest painting lesson happens before the brush ever touches the canvas. 🎨 Follow @ShellyParkerART for more acrylic painting conversations.

Before I head to the easel, I spend time studying my reference—looking at the light source, colors, values, shapes, and anything else I need to understand. The more questions I can answer before I start painting, the more attention I can give to the painting itself. #acrylicpainting #paintingtips #arttips
