My Core Word programme now has 4 YEARS of content! I have gathered a team of experts together to develop a regulating communication & play system specially built to support minimally speaking & high support needs pupils to support the development of interaction skills and building strong connections with others. This is my Halloween demo session *videos too long for one reel so I’ve split it up Video 1: Regulation Using the Halloween themed sensory toys from Explore Your Senses, I demonstrate how we can regulate and connect with our learners at the start of the session, choosing a variety of toys that can suit every learner. Video 2: Invitation I to create intrigue and safe opportunities to observe. I have created a slimy invitation by mixing cornflour, water and green colouring! By doing this in an un-rushed and playful way it encourages our learners to be interested and even come on and join. Video 3: Shared Experience Having used the Halloween toys as a transition tool to come over to the area, we can add them to our green slime mixture that we created in step 2. Each learner can join the group and explore in their own way, at their own pace. Adults are modelling language and play styles, as well as validating the learner's communication attempts and play style. Video 4: Ending It’s important not to rush the ending. Play calming tidy up or clean up music as I gather the toys into a bucket of water. The learners can help if they want to by collecting their toys and splashing into the water. We can also use a towel to mop up the green slime as well as our face and hands. *At any step my learners will have a choice to join or not join. Each step is important and they can stay put at any part where they feel most comfortable, if they are not ready to move on to the next section. This may change week on week. #speechpathology #speechtherapy #speechandlanguage #risetherapy #specialeducationteacher #autismteacher #senteacher #spedteacher #alternativeprovision #homeschool #autismmom #sensory #senco
