Last night, San Bernardino County Fire responded to a residential structure fire at a single-story boarded up home on the 2600 block of North Sierra Way in the City of San Bernardino. The first engine to arrive reported that the fire was burning under the structure in the crawl space below the floor. Crews forced entry through several openings in the building to gain access to the fire. Thermal imaging cameras, carried on the firefighter’s breathing apparatus belts, were used to locate the area burning under the floor. The interior was filled with smoke, so locating the fire without these cameras can be extremely difficult. One of the cameras can be seen in the video. The building was unoccupied and there were no reported injuries to civilians or firefighters. Thanks to @sanbernardinopd for their assistance. When you see San Bernardino County Fire at work, you’re seeing more than firefighters responding to an emergency. You’re seeing a team. From the newest firefighter to our company officers, battalion chiefs, and command staff—every rank has a responsibility, and every position plays a critical role. Our crews train for the everyday emergencies in the communities we serve, while developing specialized skills for the incidents that demand more. From structure fires and rescues, to wildland operations, technical response, aviation, and specialized equipment—we are prepared to meet the challenge. But our responsibility doesn’t stop at the borders of San Bernardino County. San Bernardino County Fire is proud to be part of the mutual aid system—a network of fire agencies that stand ready to support one another when the need is greatest. And when the Western United States is burning, we answer the call. Today, our firefighters and specialized resources are working across Nevada, Oregon, New Mexico, Washington, and Northern California. They are away from home, supporting communities in need, and bringing the same commitment, training, and professionalism that they bring to our own communities every day. Because fire doesn’t recognize boundaries. And neither does our commitment to help. San Bernardino County Fire. Ready here. Ready anywhere.
Yesterday afternoon, San Bernardino County Fire responded to a residential structure fire at a large single-family home on the 2000 block of North Tapia Way in the City of Upland. Upon arrival, firefighters were faced with significant hazards. The residence had security bars covering the windows, creating additional challenges for crews operating inside the structure. The second floor also featured a cantilevered section that raised serious concerns about the stability of that area with fire affecting it. As conditions continued to deteriorate, the Safety Officer ordered all personnel out of the structure. Approximately five minutes later, the home suffered a catastrophic structural failure, literally breaking in half. Crews then quickly transitioned to a defensive firefighting operation. Once the bulk of the fire had been knocked down, crews conducted extensive overhaul operations. A County Fire Excavator was brought in to assist firefighters in accessing hidden fires, removing debris, and ensuring the fire was fully extinguished. Crews remained on scene late into the evening. The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Office of the Fire Marshal. Three civilians received minor injuries and were transported to a local hospital. No firefighter injuries were reported. We would like to thank @ranchocucamongafd for their assistance. Date/Time: 9/1/2026 at 4:03 pm BDC: 26-219355 Contact: Captain Shawn Millerick, Public Information Officer Smillerick@sbcfire.org
