Prior to Kamehameha I, the Hawaiian Islands were separate, independent chiefdoms ruled by individual Aliʻi Nui (supreme high chiefs). King Kamehameha was the first to successfully conquer, unify, and consolidate all the major islands into a single globally recognized nation under one monarchy. So began the House of Kamehameha and later the House of Kalākaua—The sovereign monarchs of the Kingdom of Hawaiʻi. This timeline spans the entirety of the Hawaiian unified kingdom: • The Beginning: 1795, when Kamehameha I established the unified kingdom. • The Ending: 1893, when Queen Liliʻuokalani was overthrown by pro-U.S. business interests. The kingdom officially ceased to exist in 1895 when the Queen formally abdicated, paving the way for the eventual American annexation. However, she did so strictly under severe duress and house arrest to save the lives of her people. The United States government officially acknowledged in 1993 that the lands and sovereignty of Hawaiʻi were seized illegally. #hawaii #kamehameha #polynesian #america #pacific

SAMOAN TATTOOS 🦇🇼🇸🇦🇸 Samoan powerhouse wrestler “Roman Reigns” breaks down the significance of Samoan tattoos on @clubshayshay. Paying tribute to renowned Master Tattooist “Mike Fatutoa” aka “Samoan Mike” — a guardian of authentic Polynesian tattooing. The English word “tattoo” is derived from the Samoan word tatau. More than body art, tatau carries deep cultural meaning — representing identity, heritage, responsibility and one’s place within Samoan society. While tattooing traditions were suppressed or lost in parts of Polynesia following European contact, Samoans preserved their sacred tatau tradition across generations. Samoan tatau later became an important influence in the wider revival of traditional Polynesian tattooing. Passed down through generations, the practice remains a powerful expression of fa‘a Samoa — the Samoan way of life. #samoa #tattoo #tatau #polynesian #pacific
