The High Speed Sonnet - a Shakespearean Railway Adventure ROMIC Group are delighted to announce another charter for our InterCity 125, and our first collaboration with @Excursions By Rail (https://www.excursionsbyrail.co.uk/) Saturday 20th June 2026 - the mid-point of the HST’s 50 anniversary year - will see our HST make the journey from the heart of Weardale to Stratford-upon-Avon for a day of classic train travel, literature and history. The train will call at Stanhope, Frosterley, Wolsingham, Witton-le-Wear, Bishop Auckland, and Darlington, and then travel direct to Stratford-upon-Avon where guests will enjoy a five-hour stopover during which to explore the cobbled streets, riverside gardens and a wealth of cultural highlights including Shakespeare’s Birthplace, the Royal Shakespeare Theatre and Trinity Church. As Excursions by Rail say “ travel should feel like a story worth telling”, and this charter will certainly give guests a chance to enjoy a truly memorable journey and experience the rich literary and cultural heritage of Stratford-upon-Avon.
