It’s always “why didn’t she just leave?” until you understand what domestic abuse actually does to a person. The fear. The manipulation. The trauma bond. The constant cycle of being broken down and built back up with promises that things will change. You don’t know what it took for her to survive another day, let alone find the strength to walk away. Some women leave after months. Some after years. Some are still trying to find their way out. None of them deserve your judgement. You can leave the relationship. Rebuild your life. Feel safe again. And still live with flashbacks, hypervigilance, triggers, dissociation, anxiety, emotional overwhelm or even full body tremors & even seizures. Because CPTSD isn’t you “refusing to move on.” It’s what can happen when your brain and body have spent too long learning how to survive.
