literally crazy how I got here to this point now getting the opportunity to do chainstitching at a private event and a levis event, studying fashion design, and getting the job I want. I was just going to community college and working at a starbucks last year, now just trying to get into the spaces I want to be in with the little experience I have and I’m suddenly here. making mistakes and learning a lot
Several articles came out within just hours after us students, staff, and faculty had received the email stating CCA would “wind down operations” by the end of 2027. To me and several other students it feels like a sick joke when we have paid thousands of dollars in tuition and/or taken out loans just to attend this school. CCA spent about $90 million dollars on the new campus and building using our tuition. Then CCA received about $40 million dollars from NVIDIA and the State of California to cover costs, makes you wonder who the hell made such impulsive decisions. CCA released this email just 8 days before the beginning of the spring semester on Jan 13, 2026 at 8:36 AM. CCA will close by the end of the 2026-2027 year, which cuts off us sophomores who need one more year to graduate. The freshman year class takes less of a hit since they have only taken first year classes, which would not be as much of a headache to transfer. The class of 2026 and 2027 will be able to finish their studies with no interruptions, however we need to transfer out to a different institution to graduate and finish our senior year. Creating another polished portfolio and applications are one thing, not to mention how difficult CCA credits are to transfer due to our specialized classes and curriculums. Personally, it feels ridiculous as I had just transferred in to CCA from a community college and have only taken one semester here. I have worked while in school for years to save up money to pay for college by myself, to get to a good institution that can help me land internships and lead to a job. CCA was a good option for me since it was close to my home, offered scholarships, and was in a good location in SF where I wanted to be. It feels like a lot of false hope as my professors have given me praise for my work, told me my work and techniques are strong, and that I have potential to work at big companies. It’s not as easy for me to just transfer somewhere out of state since I pay for my tuition myself as a first gen student. I’ll miss my professors, classmates, and the community here. Thanks SF for selling us out, rip the last art & design school in SF.
