How do you feel this application of “the spirit of the game”. I think it would be an even bigger controversy had the ref not stop play and allowed Real Madrid to score. That being said there is no basis for this in the current Laws of the Game. Maybe the guidance for next year will include something to address this exact scenario? What do you think? And, if you do award a drop ball here, since you’ve stopped play, who do you award the drop ball to? Let me know your thoughts in the comments. #soccer #referee #championsleague @Real Madrid C.F. #manchestercity

Great job Joel!!! I have over 1 15 minutes of of clips from this match. So many great examples of proactive refereeing, good player/match management and positioning. I’ll post the full length to my YouTube later tonight. Even though this Referee did a great job, he was still the victim of verbal abuse and had to dismiss some spectators from the game for using Abusive Language. It just goes to show, that no matter how good a referee may be, there will always be spectators, coaches and players who will disagree with your calls. Try to get objective feedback from fellow referees or a mentor you trust. Learn from it and move forward. Great job Joel!!! #so#soccere#refereeo#footballtiktok

This is an amazing call at any level! Unbelievably difficult in a high-pressure situation. This Assistant Referee should be celebrated, not attacked. I just don’t understand how people can think that this is an acceptable response. What are you guys think about this amazing offside call and how many cards are given out to the team officials and substitutes? #referee #soccer #footballtiktok

Soccer referees need to be able to run and communicate at the same time. It’s different from basketball where they blow a whistle for every single infraction regardless of a potential advantage for the attacking team. It’s a free flowing game and every time we see a potential foul, we don’t necessarily stop play. We can communicate to the players that we’ve seen it, but allow play to continue. We also don’t have hand signals that explain why we’ve stopped play similar to American Football, Hockey or Rugby. Our words help people understand our calls. A lack of communication is often what elicits constant questions and possibly dissent from players, spectators and coaches. Using words during active play can help the game to flow and for players to know what’s fair you’re seeing and why calls are being made or potentially not made. Let me know what your whistle setup is in the comments. #soccer #footballtiktok #referee

Good communication, both visual and verbal, is critical for any successful referee. If everyone understands the call, there is significantly less dissent / noise from players, coaches and spectators at the youth levels. #referee #soccer #footballtiktok

understand the call, but I don’t like the call. I find these decisions to be highly divisive. Some people are sticklers for the law and some people would rather apply the spirit of the game. Regardless, I find a penalty kick to be such an outrageously harsh outcome for such an innocent effort to properly restart play. They aren’t taking an advantage away from the attacking team. It just feels wrong to me. What do you think? #soccer #referee #championsleague #footballtiktok @arsenal

I hate referee wallets. It’s fine if you want use the wallet for keeping score, I please keep your cards someplace else. When I need to pull a card, I want to keep my eyes on the players and be confident and smooth when I need to take action. How do you set up your cards? #FIFATikTokCreator #FIFAWorldCup #referee

This is an unbelievably difficult call. Not only is it completely unexpected, but the uproar it would cause to say that the goal must be disallowed should not be underestimated. The correct call is an indirect free kick for Improper procedure on the free kick. Good luck making that call! #soccer #football #futbol #referee #refsneedlovetoo #goal

What is your whistle set-up? What brand of whistle do you use and how do you hold it? Lanyard? Wrist Wrap? 2 whistles locked together on a loop? Finger grip? Rawdog with nothing else? Mounted on a finger grip? Everyone feels comfortable with something else. It’s needs to be easy to grab when you need, but also allow you to freely communicate with mechanics or voice at a momnts notice. Let me know what you use in the comments. For the month of October, we’ll be selling the Bright Green Fox 40 Sonik Blast on the Refs Need Love Too online store. 100% of the profits go directly to the US Center for Mental Health in Sport in honor of Mental Health Awareness Month. #soccer #referee #footballtiktok

Goalkeepers pay attention!!! This is one of the worst goal kicks you will ever see, but this keeper displayed a cool head and situational awareness. He definitely knows the Laws of the Game!!! Would you have known what to do? If he had touched it a second time with his feet or prevented the attacker from playing it by laying on top of the ball, would you have known that it was a red card for denial of an obvious goal scoring opportunity? It’s one of the rare scenarios where we can have an indirect free kick and it also results in a red card!!! ##soccer##footballtiktok##referee##goalkeeper

Please stop blaming the ref when you lose. Can a ref make a decision that has a significant impact on the outcome? Absolutely! Will they be perfect? No! Will they make mistakes? Yes! 99.99% of the time, it’s the player on the field, who determine the outcome of the match with their ability to defend, pass, dribble, shoot and score. I have never seen a match where a team doesn’t commit at least 50 errors. They commit tons of turnovers through missed passes, poor first touches or missed shots. They commit fouls, offside offenses of and other mental errors. If you are a coach or a parent of a youth player and you are arguing calls or otherwise blaming the Referee for a loss, you are teaching your child all of the wrong lessons. If you have a sincere concern about a Referee, feel free to email the league and the Assigner with video. It’s a Referee needs further training or coaching. I’m sure they will be happy to get it to them. Stop cheating your kids from important life lessons. Sometimes the other team is simply better. Sometimes the other team is simply lucky. Sometimes the referee isn’t great. But teach your kid to take responsibility for their own actions. Some of the greatest lessons can be learned from the toughest losses. ##referee##soccer##footballtiktok
