Now, this is definitely not an easy or light read. It explores some really difficult topics, and there were so many moments where I found myself pausing to reflect and consider things from a completely different perspective. When Molly discussed the early rollout of the COVID-19 vaccines and how heavily nursing homes had been impacted, it hit me right in the feels. It took me straight back to 2021, when I was working as a carer. Residents’ families weren’t allowed to visit, and we were wearing PPE, including N95 masks, for 10 hours straight. Reading those moments brought back so many emotions and memories. I messaged my friend @Libby Jerram MULTIPLE times throughout this book with some variation of “WAIT, WTF IS HAPPENING?!” because the twists just kept coming, and I genuinely didn’t see any of them coming. I was constantly questioning everything I thought I knew! The way Jodi explored postpartum psychosis was simply outstanding. I could feel the fear, confusion and overwhelming nature of the experience through the pages, and it was such a powerful part of the story. What a book to choose for our October book club pick! There is SO much to unpack, and I already know we’re going to have plenty to discuss. The only reason this is a 4.5 star read instead of a full 5 stars is that I found some of the chapters a little too long. Other than that, Jodi had me completely captivated from the very first page right through to the author’s note.
