The month of June, along with the third week leading up Father’s Day are known as Men’s Health Month and Men’s Health Week respectively. The United States Congress established Men’s Health week on May 31st 1994 through joint resolution to create a time for men and boys to take the time to have health screenings and to generally practice preventative health care and take care of themselves and each other, it also acknowledges the physical and mental health problems and struggles that disproportionately affect men and boys. The week quickly expanded into the month we know today as organizations like Men’s Health Network (who pioneered the week to become law) realized that a week isn’t enough to set up long term success in regard to someone’s health outside of a simple mental commitment, such as scheduling appointments. So the week was expanded into a month. Governors of various states and mayors of various cities have acknowledged this extension. The legislation outlines that the: “President is authorized and requested to issue a proclama- tion calling upon the people of the United States to observe this week with appropriate programs and activities.” NOTE: there are 2 month dedicated to Mens Health advocacy, the first is June which was established in 1994 as an official observance by the government and country and focuses on Mens and boys general physical and mental health and encourages them to take action against these problems. The second is November which was established as a campaign 9 years later in 2003 to specifically highlight cancers that men suffer from and the suicide rate and mental health problems men face and the stigmas around them. June is general and November is specific. Regardless of what nation celebrates what. That shouldn’t take anything from anyone. This month is a great time to spearhead advocacy, but it isn’t the only time we as men and boys should take care of ourselves. Although it is never easy with the troubles that life brings, we owe it to ourselves and our own futures to do good for ourselves in regard to our health all the time. Take care of yourself today, tomorrow and always guys. ❤️ INFORMATION RESOURCES: The text of the law: https://www.congress.gov/103/statute/STATUTE-108/STATUTE-108-Pg710.pdf A summary of what Men’s Health Week is by the City of Saint Louis Missouri: https://www.stlouis-mo.gov/archives/newsgram/mens-health-2020.cfm

The 15th of June to the 21st of June of 2026 is observed as National Men’s Health Week! Established on May 31st 1994 as Public Law 264-103, the law states that “the President is authorized and requested to issue a proclama- tion calling upon the people of the United States to observe this week with appropriate programs and activities.” The week was championed by the Men’s Health Network and was established to raise awareness to the health disparities that disproportionately impact men and boys, and encouraging them to take care of themselves and to get their health screened for issues that can be prevented. This week expanded into the Men’s Health Month we know today. The operative clause of the law reads: "Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the week of June 12 through 19, 1994, is designated as 'National Men's Health Week.” The amount of official proclamations issued by officials in states, tribal areas and localities has been record shattering with 105 at the beginning of the month alone!
