In 1896, a railway company deliberately CRASHED TWO TRAINS TOGETHER as a publicity stunt. 💥🚂 The Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad the famous “Katy” built a temporary town called Crush, Texas, just north of Waco, and invited people to watch two old locomotives race towards each other and collide head-on. More than 40,000 people turned up, making it one of the biggest spectacles in Texas at the time. The trains were unmanned, and the company thought the crash would be safe. It wasn’t. The boilers exploded on impact, sending huge chunks of metal flying into the crowd. Three people were killed and six injured. One photographer, Jarvis Deane, lost an eye. 🤯 The publicity stunt became known as the Crash at Crush and it was never repeated. 🍺 Follow for more unbelievable stories from history. #PubDad #History #TrainHistory #TexasHistory #DidYouKnow
This bloke was lost in the Canadian wilderness… so he caused a fucking BLACKOUT to get rescued. ⚡🤯 In 2010, a man became stranded near Wollaston Lake in northern Saskatchewan after bad weather left him unable to get home. He had no way to call for help and had been out there for several days with no food. So he grabbed an axe and chopped down FOUR power poles, cutting electricity to the isolated community. He knew SaskPower would have to send someone to find out what had caused the outage. The next morning, a helicopter flew along the power line to investigate and found the stranded man alive. 😂 It worked… although SaskPower understandably pointed out that cutting live power lines was incredibly dangerous. Sometimes you don’t need a flare gun. You just need to piss off the electricity company. 😂⚡ 🍺 Follow for more unbelievable true stories. #PubDad #Survival #TrueStory #Canada #DidYouKnow
This tiny frog actually lives alongside a TARANTULA in the Amazon. 🐸🕷️🤯 The spotted frog, Chiasmocleis royi, has been found sharing the burrow of a giant Pamphobeteus tarantula. Even though tarantulas can eat frogs, this tiny one appears to be tolerated by its terrifying housemate. Scientists think the frog may benefit the spider by eating parasites and tiny pests around its burrow, keeping its eggs safe, although exactly what the spider gets out of the deal isn’t completely understood. Basically, the frog gets a massive scary landlord… and the spider gets a tiny cleaner. 😂🍺 #PubDad #CrazyAnimalFacts #AmazonRainforest #Tarantula #FrogFacts
The old Guinness World Record for drinking beer was 36 PINTS IN ONE HOUR. 🍺🤯 In 1969, 23-year-old Jack Keyes from Northern Ireland reportedly drank 36 pints of beer in 60 minutes. That’s more than half a pint every minute for an entire hour. 😳 Guinness eventually stopped monitoring the record in 1989, because records encouraging extreme drinking were considered too dangerous. So somewhere in an old Guinness World Records book, there really was a bloke whose achievement was basically: “I drank 36 pints in an hour.” 😂🍺 🍺 Follow for more unbelievable stories from the pub. #PubDad #BeerHistory #WorldRecords #PubHistory #DidYouKnow
They literally taught endangered whooping cranes where to migrate by getting them to follow a tiny aircraft. 🤯🦅 The chicks were raised away from humans, with handlers wearing crane costumes so the birds wouldn’t imprint on people. They were then taught to follow the aircraft and in 2001, the first group of young whooping cranes followed an ultralight from Wisconsin to Florida on a journey of about 1,250 miles. Basically… “Come on lads, follow the plane.” 😂✈️🍺 #PubDad #WhoopingCrane #CrazyAnimalFacts #WildlifeConservation #DidYouKnow
In 2005, artists put a 200ft pink rabbit on the side of an Italian mountain. 🐰🏔️😂 The giant knitted sculpture, called Hase, was created by Austrian art collective Gelitin and placed on Colletto Fava in Piedmont. It was made from pink wool and stuffed with hay, and hikers were actually encouraged to climb onto it and lie on its giant belly. But here’s the weirdest part: it was designed to slowly rot away. The artists expected it to remain until around 2025, with nature gradually destroying it. And that’s pretty much exactly what happened by the mid-2010s, the giant bunny had largely decomposed. They basically put a 200ft plush rabbit on a mountain… and left it there to die. 😂🐰 🍺 Follow for more unbelievable stories. #PubDad #PinkRabbit #Italy #WeirdHistory #DidYouKnow
A Guinness bottle spent 162 years at the bottom of the sea… and it’s still sealed. 🍺🌊🤯 Divers exploring the wreck of the Mindoro, which sank off Dover in 1864, discovered a bottle of Guinness Extra Stout sitting among the wreckage. Now scientists are analysing it to see whether they can recover clues about the beer’s 19th-century recipe. Imagine finding a Guinness that’s older than the telephone. 😂 🍺 Follow for more unbelievable stories from history. #P#PubDadG#GuinnessS#ShipwreckH#HistoryDidYouKnow
You’ve probably heard that Aldi and Lidl were started by two brothers… but that’s actually a myth. 🛒😳 The two brothers founded Aldi together before later splitting the company into Aldi Nord and Aldi Süd after a disagreement. Lidl is a completely different company, founded separately years later. The similar names and business models have fooled people ever since. 🍺 Follow for more myths busted and surprising facts from the pub. #P#PubDadA#AldiL#LidlM#MythBustedDidYouKnow
Scientists have just detected radio waves coming directly from a planet outside our Solar System. 🤯🪐 Using the MeerKAT radio telescope in South Africa, they picked up repeating bursts coming from Beta Pictoris b, about 63 light-years away. And the crazy bit? The radio waves are linked to auroras created by the planet’s magnetic field. They estimate its magnetic field is at least 1,250 times stronger than Earth’s where the signal was produced. We basically just heard an alien planet’s magnetic field doing its thing. 🤯🍺 #PubDad #SpaceFacts #Exoplanets #Astronomy #ScienceIsMental
This clam was 507 YEARS OLD when scientists found it. 🤯🐚 Known as Ming, this ocean quahog was dredged up off the coast of Iceland in 2006. Scientists counted the growth rings in its shell and initially thought it was around 405 years old… then a more detailed analysis revealed it was actually 507. It was born around 1499 before Henry VIII became King of England. 🤯 And yes… scientists had already killed it before they realised just how old it was. 😂🍺 #PubDad #MingTheClam #CrazyAnimalFacts #OceanLife #DidYouKnow
The fireman’s pole was invented because one firefighter slid down a fucking hay pole. 😂🚒 In 1878, Chicago firefighter George Reid was working at Engine Company 21 when an alarm came in. He was up in the hayloft and needed to get downstairs fast so he grabbed the wooden pole used for moving hay and slid down it. It worked so well that Captain David Kenyon saw the potential and got a permanent pole installed between the floors. The idea quickly spread to fire stations across the world. So one of the most recognisable features of a fire station apparently started with a firefighter thinking: “Fuck the stairs.” 😂 🍺 Follow for more unbelievable stories from history. #PubDad #Firefighter #ChicagoHistory #History #DidYouKnow
Scientists have made CONCRETE from human poop. 💩🏗️🤯 Researchers took human sewage sludge, heated it in low oxygen to turn it into biochar, then used that material to replace some of the cement in concrete. And bizarrely, it actually made some of the concrete stronger with one mix showing a 42% increase in flexural strength after 91 days. 🤯 It could eventually turn one of humanity’s biggest waste problems into a useful building material… although it’s still at the research stage and needs more real-world testing. So yes… POOPCRETE is actually a thing. 😂💩 🍺 Follow for more Science Is Mental. #PubDad #Science #Poopcrete #Engineering #DidYouKnow
