A Lyme rash doesn’t always look like the classic bullseye — and many people who develop Lyme and other tick-borne diseases never see a rash at all. Erythema migrants (EM), an early sign of Lyme disease, can take many forms. It may appear as a solid red patch, develop central clearing, look blue-red, or show up as multiple lesions. One important clue is that an EM rash often expands over time. Because Lyme rashes can vary so much from person to person—and may appear in places that are easy to overlook—it’s important to check your skin carefully after possible tick exposure. If you notice an expanding or unusual rash after spending time where ticks may be present, contact a healthcare professional for evaluation. Found a tick attached to your skin? You will want remove it promptly and correctly, as there is no "safe" minimum attachment time for Lyme disease. A tick, particularly if it has partially fed on other hosts, can transmit infections in minutes. And the longer the tick is attached, the more dangerous it becomes to the human host.
