As the agency pushes to raise that number to record highs, it’s important to remember that local jails and police departments play a key role in the deportation agenda. This collaboration often looks like local police arresting people for a minor offense, then flagging them to ICE for pickup at the local jail. It’s a sinister tactic that is happening across the U.S. Local law enforcement does not have to play along. Working with ICE is entirely voluntary, and its deportation plan won’t work if states refuse to participate. #incarceration #criminaljustice #ice

Enduring menopause in the free world is hard. Behind bars, it's even worse. The U.S. prison system was primarily designed to incarcerate men. As a result, women’s unique healthcare needs are often neglected. A new analysis of prison policies across the U.S. showed that there is very little information about menopause in policy handbooks. Only 10 states’ documentation mentions "menopause." Five have info explicitly about menopause. The rest mention it in the context of other health-related concerns. None spell out what care, education, or resources prisons provide people experiencing perimenopause or menopause. Incarcerated people can't be left behind in the fight for expanded perimenopause & menopause research and care. #incarceration #criminaljustice #menopause
