Day 2 of my Phuket adventure had me riding on the back of a scooter and becoming a temporary elephant handler... okay, not really 😂🐘 Visiting the Phuket Elephant Nature Reserve Ethical Sanctuary was one of the highlights of my trip. My guide, Michael, shared how many of these elephants were rescued from captivity, where they were often forced to give rides, perform tricks, and sometimes endured harsh treatment. Hearing their stories broke my heart, but seeing them now roam freely, protected and cared for, warmed it right back up. After years in captivity, many can't return to the wild, which makes sanctuaries like this so important. Anyone who knows me knows elephants are my spirit animal.
