Your home program might not be training what you think it is. "Exercise" is an umbrella term. Fitness, strength, flexibility, coordination and balance each ask something slightly different of your body, and one session can hit a couple of them and miss the rest entirely. Some activities cover several at once, and plenty don't. It's easy to finish a workout feeling like you've done a bit of everything when your body was only ever challenged in one way. We're both neuro physios and we've caught ourselves doing it too. Our job is mostly helping you pick the goal first, then matching the exercise to it. This Short walks through how each one is targeted, so you can check your own program against it. New episodes out weekly. Subscribe so you do not miss any of it. #NeuroRehab #MultipleSclerosis #MSExercise #NeuroPhysio #HomeExercise
Did you know? Moderna is trialling an mRNA vaccine for Epstein-Barr virus, and it could be one of the most significant developments in MS research in years. EBV, the virus behind glandular fever, is the single biggest known risk factor for MS. Over 90% of the population carry it, most without ever knowing. A vaccine shows promise to help with the treatment of MS, listen in to find out more. New episodes out weekly. Cardio is the exercise most people picture when they hear the word exercise. It's the aerobic, fitness-based kind. Walking, jogging, rowing, cycling, anything that gets you sweating and your heart rate up without your muscles giving out. You can keep it going for a long time, which is the whole idea. A brisk walk to the coffee van counts, as long as your heart rate actually notices. Your heart and lungs are doing most of the work here. The load sits low enough that the rest of your body can keep up, so what's being trained is your cardiac function and your breathing, and your leg muscles are mostly along for the ride. If you live with MS, heat and fatigue are worth planning around. A sweaty session can leave some people flat or stir up symptoms, so it's worth finding what suits you before you go hard. New episodes out fortnightly. Subscribe so you do not miss any of it. #NeuroRehab #MultipleSclerosis #MSExercise #Cardio #NeuroPhysio
