We work with a lot of families, which means by circumstance we train a lot of dogs that live with children. We train a few dogs every year that have bitten children and sometimes it’s really tricky. Most of the time… it’s not. The dog was put into a position too many times that was unfair, and that resulted in a bite. Not a “ I want to kill you” bite but a “ I tried to tell you stop now I have to escalate” bite. The key is… a dog that’s been taught how to interact with children, alongside a child who’s been taught how to respect dogs. That’s the sweet spot. #dogtraining #dogs #germanshepherd #Jett #canine

A situation like this for Milo about a month ago was almost impossible. He would’ve been at the end of the leash, lunging and barking at all the other dogs. Funny enough, when he’s with me and he’s around the house he’s not reactive at all or shows any bit of aggression towards the other dogs. He’s been a bit of a tricky case with his reactivity, it looks super intense and aggressive, but at the end of the day, there’s nothing behind it. Just a bunch of frustration, that he couldn’t get out any other way. I’ve worked on putting all that frustration into his intense drive for the ball. It’s been pretty successful, it’s really helped reduce his general reactivity and anxiety about seeing other dogs, and it’s helped a ton with making him focus on me and getting rewarded for that. Luckily, there’s nothing behind the behavior. He could be completely losing his mind and the second he gets to the dog he immediately starts play bowing and initiating play. But for us, the overall goal is really that he can be neutral and under control around other dogs. He’s gonna get there. #dogtraining #germanshepherd #arizona #dogtrainingtips #gsd

Now, to be charitable most people I work with this are really good about it. I often hear… “ i know this is my fault.” Or some variation of that. And largely ( not always) that’s the case. These kind of people are ideal to work with. They’ve recognized their part in the dogs poor behavior, and well make tons of progress with them. People who can’t see what they do, or have done to create the problem are very difficult to work with. #germanshepherd #dogtraining #arizona #dogtrainingtips #canine
