Replying to @Tanita Mitchell Yep! A highly rated school district can tell you a lot about academics. It cannot tell you everything about belonging. When Black families are researching communities, the history of the suburb matters too. Not because history automatically determines every present-day experience, but because communities do not develop in a vacuum. Look at the town’s history. Look at current demographics. Talk to Black families who already live there. Pay attention to representation in classrooms, leadership, advanced programs, discipline, and community spaces. School choice is not just about where your child can achieve. It is also about understanding the environment in which they will be expected to achieve. #BlackParents #SchoolChoice #PublicEducation #SundownTowns #PearlsOfPedagogy

Trauma-informed teaching is important and it MATTERS. So do counselors, social workers, psychologists, community partnerships, mental-health providers, manageable caseloads, family resources, and functioning systems of referral. A caring teacher can change a child’s life. That does not mean the caring teacher should be expected to replace an entire support system. #TraumaInformedEducation #PearlsOfPedagogy #teachersoftiktok #teacherburnout #PublicEducation
