For years the farming of corn by the National Wildlife Refuge system has completely altered the natural migration of ducks and geese in the grasslands of California. Recently @senjohnkennedy became an out spoken opponent of corn being grown throughout the Midwest that’s halting the migration of mallards to the great state of Louisiana. Sen Kennedy did you know that the great state of California is one of, if not the highest ranking states for federal waterfowl stamp sales? Yet the federal refuge system over the last 10 years has slowly increased the farmed acreage of corn on the national refuge system. Now, they’re shredding the corn mid season to halt the migration of these ducks and geese any further south and preventing them from leaving areas that are not accessible to hunters. It started locally with a couple acres that they planted and started shredding at the begging of our late season to “drive geese” back to public land from farm land. That has turned into season long shredding and feeding of geese across thousands of acres of cut and flooded corn. It has dramatically altered the migration of ducks and geese in California especially the grasslands (Central CA). sen John Kennedy how much do you really care about outdoorsmen and women? This isn’t a Central Flyway problem. This is a nation wide problem that starts with the farming habits of the Federal Government and the National Wild Life Refuge system. The feeding of ducks and geese during the reverse migration is important but it shouldn’t be allowed to alter the normal migration before and during hunting season. I challenge you to come out here and see this atrocious practice of hunting hazing for yourself. #duckhunting #goosehunting #waterfowl #waterfowlhunting #waterfowling
