Don’t flush. Wait 10 minutes. If color shows up in the bowl, water is leaking through. 🔧 HOW TO FIX IT - The usual culprit is the flapper, the rubber seal at the bottom of the tank. It wears out over time and should be replaced about every 5 years. 1. Turn off the water valve behind the toilet 2. Flush to empty the tank 3. Unhook the old flapper and take it to the hardware store so you get one that fits 4. Clip in the new one, turn the water back on, then retest. It’s one of the cheapest, easiest fixes in your house. A dripping faucet is worth fixing too. One drip per second adds up to 3,000+ gallons a year. 🔥 OLD WATER HEATER? CALL YOUR POWER COMPANY FIRST Some utilities pay you to switch to a heat pump water heater. In Austin, it’s $1,000.
