I grew up with the Bible. Now I’m going back through it from the beginning—reading what the text actually says, comparing it with history, ancient traditions, and the religious world around it, and separating evidence from interpretation. This is the prologue to REVISITING RELIGION. No preaching. No automatic debunking. No pretending difficult questions aren’t there. We’re reading the Bible again and checking the receipts. This video is not where we get into the bible stuff yet I made this lil video from other ancient texts to kinda show some of the similarities. What you’re seeing here is simply how I visualize some of the older extra-biblical creation stories in my head—stories like the Enuma Elish, Atrahasis, and other ancient Near Eastern traditions that existed long before Christianity. I’m not presenting these visuals as literal historical footage, and I’m not saying this is exactly what ancient people believed the world looked like. This is my creative interpretation of the imagery, themes, gods, chaos, creation, conflict, and flood traditions found in those older texts. The point of this part of Revisiting Religion is to understand the world of ideas that already existed before we get to the Bible itself. We haven’t reached Genesis yet. Before we ask what the Bible says, I want to first look at some of the stories, concepts, and religious traditions that were already circulating in the ancient world. Next video will be looking at what the bible is and where it came from. Revisiting Religion: Connect the dots.
