25 years ago, I was sitting behind a radio microphone when the world changed. I remember going live as the reports came in. The first plane. Then the second. Then the third. Then the fourth hijacked plane. We were trying to tell our listeners what was happening while, at the same time, trying to comprehend it ourselves. September 11, 2001, became one of those days permanently woven into the fabric of who we are. Nearly 3,000 people went about an ordinary Tuesday morning and never came home. Behind every number was a name, a family, a future and someone who loved them. Twenty-five years later, I find myself remembering more than the planes, the towers and the smoke. I remember the courage. I remember the first responders running toward danger. I remember the flags, the prayers and a country that suddenly remembered how much we needed one another. Most of all, I remember the people. September 11 reminds me how quickly an ordinary day can change and how precious those ordinary days really are. 25 years later, I remember. And I will never forget. 🇺🇸 Read the full Dr. Nick’s Matter of Perspective at inspirewithdrnick.com #September11 #NeverForget #911 #September11th #25YearsLater #DrNicksMatterOfPerspective #Remember911 #PatriotDay #FirstResponders #EveryoneHasAStory

What if Jesus is the greatest victim of identity theft in history? We have used His name to justify our politics, anger, judgment, prejudices, and even hatred, sometimes creating a Jesus who looks more like us than the Christ we meet in Scripture. Maybe it is time to stop asking Jesus to fit our identity and start asking how following Him should transform ours. My newest Dr. Nick’s Matter of Perspective takes a deeper look at who Jesus really is and whether the world can still recognize Him through us. A mother was trapped beneath an overturned Jeep. Her child had been pulled free, but she was still pinned beneath thousands of pounds of steel. There was no time to wait. Missouri State Highway Patrol Trooper Bittick, Badge 393, stood in the mud with Trooper Cook and Berkeley police officers and did what the moment demanded. They lifted the Jeep. They freed her. They helped save a mother’s life. And when I sat down with Trooper Bittick to talk about what happened, his response stopped me in my tracks: “I didn’t do anything. I was just doing my job.” Maybe that is what an unsung hero looks like. Not someone looking for applause. Not someone asking for recognition. Just someone willing to run toward the unknown, stand beside a stranger on one of the worst days of her life, and do whatever it takes to help bring her home. Badge 393 says he was just doing his job. I see it differently.
