One thing I've learned through our autism journey is that stimming is not something that needs to be stopped or fixed. Stimming is often a way autistic people regulate their nervous systems, process emotions, communicate, cope with sensory input, and feel safe in a world that can sometimes feel overwhelming. Whether it's hand flapping, jumping, humming, spinning, vocalizing, repeating sounds, or seeking out certain textures, these behaviors often serve an important purpose. For Mila, stimming can look like exploring the world through touch. She loves feeling different textures with her hands—running her fingers through sand, rice, dirt, shells, rocks, and other natural materials. What might look like simple play to someone else is often helping her regulate, stay calm, and connect with the world around her. When Mila jumps, sings, makes noises, or seeks out textures, she's not "misbehaving" or “weird” she's regulating. She's finding balance. Shes playing differently than a neurotypical child. She's expressing herself in a way that works for her. Instead of asking, "How can I stop this behavior?" maybe we should ask, "What is this behavior helping them with?" Understanding stimming can help others see autism through a different lens—one of acceptance rather than correction. Different doesn't mean wrong. Sometimes it simply means finding a different way to feel calm, connected, and comfortable in your own skin. 💜 #AutismAcceptance #AutismAwareness #Stimming #Neurodiversity #AutisticJoy
Lately, I’ve been reminding myself that I don’t have to carry the weight of every “what if” on my shoulders. As Mila’s mom, it’s easy to worry about the future. Will she be understood? Will she have friends? Will the world be kind to her? Will she have everything she needs? What will happen when I’m gone? Will I ever have a conversation with her? Am I doing enough? But then I remember that God never asked me to have all the answers. He asked me to trust Him. Mila is exactly who God created her to be. Every step she takes, every new word, every smile, every challenge, and every victory is part of a story bigger than I can see right now. So today, I’m choosing faith over fear. I’m choosing to live in the moments God has given us instead of worrying about the ones that haven’t come yet. Mila has taught me so much about slowing down, finding joy in simple things, and trusting God’s timing. I don’t need to know what tomorrow looks like. I just need to trust the One who already does. 💜 “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself.” — Matthew 6:34 Today, we’ll keep living, finding joy, and having no fear #findingpeace #autism #autismawareness #autismacceptance #fyp
