I asked for KVM suggestions because my Mac + Ubuntu setup wasn't working. Synergy 3 ended up being the answer, but it took three changes for my setup: switch the Ubuntu session back to X11/Xorg, try the Synergy 3 beta, and use a configuration file for the monitor layout. I didn’t want a hardware KVM adding more cables or making my keyboard and mouse software less reliable. I prefer moving the cursor straight to the other monitor, and I want clipboard sharing. My Dygma Raise 2 and Logitech G502 G-Shift setup have been picky through hubs and KVMs. The software approach isn’t perfect either—Shift can stick when I move between Mac and Ubuntu, so I made a small xdotool script to release modifier keys. Synergy 3 between my Mac and Ubuntu machine was a fight. Here is what finally made it usable for my setup: switch Ubuntu to Xorg/X11, try the Synergy 3 beta, use config-file mode instead of the GUI, and keep an xdotool key-release script for the stuck-Shift issue. That last step is a workaround, not a fix—the modifier issue still happens on my setup. If you solved it for real, tell me what worked.
