Raphael Mann - ‘English Summer’ (excerpt 13) The end of the last verse…as the strings and woodwinds spiral to a climax… Has there ever been a moment in my lifetime where the words ‘No future in England’s dreaming’ felt more true? Or where describing this country as ‘a fascist regime’ felt less like a provocative taunt and more like a genuine threat…? This is another place in the song where I’m being playful but the underlying points are deadly serious… @mareechoie on clarinet, flute & vocals #fyp #music #originalmusic #godsavethequeen #aliceinwonderland

A final set of ‘English Summer’ video stills; from the last chorus of the song… One question the song raises is when should you stay in the place you were born when things are going wrong, and try to be part of the solution, and when should you get out… There’s no right answer of course… Its easy to look back on history and ask why somebody didn’t get out before it was too late… It isn’t always possible, it isn’t always clear what’s going to happen next… Myself I don’t get very attached to places the way that people often do. Perhaps because ever since I was a child I’ve moved around a lot, so no particular place was ever really ‘home’… But nevertheless (and perhaps because of this), I can put down roots pretty quickly… I’ll be alright wherever I end up though, and the bigger concern for me is my family, and the effect that these changes might have on them… Weighing up the pros and cons of pulling up our roots in order to find a place where there’s water and sunlight and healthy soil… #fyp #music #originalmusic #pullinguproots #emigration
