I’ll never forget being told on my first day, “I’m not expecting much out of you. We’ve hired two other women before you. One quit before lunch and the other made it one day.” I love being told I can’t do something 💁🏻‍♀️🤭 I stayed the entire 6 month project. I worked my ass off. I held my own. I outworked the men around me more than once. I seen men hired and I seen them quit. I watched the bosses start saying “watch out for her, she will run you over if you slow her down.” And when the project ended, I was the only person given a big bonus. They thanked me for my hard work and dedication and told me how hard it was to find someone who actually impressed them—and that I had. I’m not gonna lie… I cried. Not because I needed the money. Because after being made to feel worthless for so long, hearing someone recognize my work ethic, dedication, and strength meant more to me than they probably realized. Sometimes you don’t need to become better. You just need to get around people who can actually see what you bring to the table. I knew I was capable.
