2026 saw the UK's hottest summer on record... but is this the new normal? 🌡️ How much have our summers really changed over recent decades? Are they becoming hotter and drier? We know our climate is changing and that makes hotter summers far more likely, but what can we say about how often heatwaves will occur going forward and what about rainfall? Will we see more droughts, more thunderstorms or both? In this video, we explore what defines a typical UK summer, how summer weather has changed in recent decades, and what climate projections suggest for the future. From rising temperatures and shifting rainfall patterns to the increasing likelihood of extreme heat, we look at what the science tells us about the seasons ahead. Want to find out more? Watch the full video on our YouTube channel and let us know what you remember about summer growing up 👇 #ukweather #summer #hottestonrecord #weather
Warmth extends into October 🍁 This weekend starts fine and dry for many with sunny intervals, as cloud and rain will fade in the south. Windy and showery in the far northwest. Fog patches in the south into Sunday morning, and here some fine weather, but rain will be persistent for parts of western Scotland with strong winds, and cloudy with patchy rain in the west across other parts of the north. Make sure to stay up to date with the latest forecast 📲 Recorded 01/10/26 #ukweather #weekendweather #weekend #weather
The Atlantic hurricane season has been unusually quiet... but that's about to change. Tropical Storm Isaias is expected to reach hurricane strength on Thursday 8 October, becoming the latest first Atlantic hurricane of the season in the modern record. A strong El Niño and unfavourable conditions across the Atlantic have helped keep hurricane activity unusually quiet so far this year. Meanwhile, residents along the northern Gulf Coast are being warned of dangerous winds and storm surge as Isaias approaches landfall. Recorded 07/10/26 #hurricane #isaias #elniño #weather
It's remarkably warm at the moment for many, but is there snow on the way? Sort of. Here's Alex B with this week's 5 things to know about the weather. Watch out for some fog. Temperatures are going to drop from several degrees above, to around or a little below average by the middle of the week. There will also be some rain, which could be pretty heavy for southeastern parts on Wednesday. Oh and with nights getting longer and longer at a rate of around 4 minutes per day, there are some things to check out in the night sky. Recorded 5/10/26 #ukweather #autumn #weather
It’s October, but where’s the autumn weather? After a warm September, October has got off to a warm start with temperatures remaining above average into next week. Nothing says autumn quite like the leaves changing colour 🍂🍁 And after the hot, dry summer we’ve had, there could be a particularly lovely display in store this year. There’s some rain this weekend in the north and west, but many will see some dry weather. It’ll feel warm in the sunshine, although temperatures will be closer to average in the north. So why not head out and see what colours of autumn you can spot? 🍂 Recorded on 1/10/2026 #ukweather #autumn #autumnleaves
World Space Week is an opportunity to look beyond Earth and explore the science of our wider Solar System 🪐 While our own weather can be dramatic, it is far from unique. From dust storms on Mars to 1,200mph winds on Neptune, our Solar System is home to some truly extraordinary weather. On some it rains diamonds, while others reach scorching temperatures of 450°C. And did you know tornadoes can even form on Mars? 🪐 Explore the Solar System's most extreme weather this #WorldSpaceWeek and discover how the Met Office experts forecast space weather from the Sun. How could the hurricane affect the UK? 🌀 A more autumnal feel has arrived, with temperatures dropping and rain returning to many areas. There's plenty more unsettled weather to come before the week is out and possibly into next week. It will be a chilly start to Thursday, and a fresher feel, before turning warmer again on Friday. Despite that, there will be some bright spells and fine weather around before conditions turn more unsettled from the west later on Thursday. Heavy rain pushing across parts of the UK through Friday. Scotland and Northern Ireland could also see hail and a few thundery showers. Not much change into next week, with the northwest often catching the wetter, windier weather, and much of the south and southeast seeing something drier, and often milder. Meanwhile, in the Gulf of Mexico, Tropical Storm Isaias is expected to strengthen into a hurricane. While it won't directly impact the UK, its development can influence the position and strength of the jet stream, which in turn may affect our weather patterns in the days ahead. A powerful Atlantic jet stream, energised in part by the remnants of former hurricanes over North America, will continue to drive deep areas of low pressure across the North Atlantic. However, rather than tracking directly across the UK, many of these storms are expected to pass to the north of Scotland as high pressure frequently builds across southern Britain. That means a classic north-south split through much of the period. Northern parts of the UK can expect spells of wind and rain at times, while southern areas are likely to see longer dry spells, some sunshine, overnight mist and fog patches, and temperatures often remaining above average for early October 🌦️ In this 10 Day Trend Aidan McGivern explains how the jet stream is evolving, why Atlantic storms are swerving the UK, and what it means for rainfall, temperatures and autumn weather prospects through the first week of October.
