Most people drive up for the views and leave before the real show starts. Pair a day of exploring with our favorite trail guides at @hikeolympic, then stick around as the stars take over. Olympic National Park runs free dark sky telescope programs up there. On a clear night you'll see the Milky Way, galaxies, nebulae and planets through the telescopes, with volunteer astronomy guides to point you at them. These are the last runs of the season — nightly 2 - 4 September at 9:15 pm, then 5 - 13 September at 9:00 pm. The programs are weather-dependent, so checking conditions before heading up is part of the ritual. Distance: ~60 mins from Menizei Pro Tip: You're at 5,200 feet and temps drop fast once the sun's gone. Bring thermals. Comment STARS and we'll send you our full Hurricane Ridge night kit + the red-light rule.
