AFRICAN PARENTS AND CHURCH LEADERS, PLEASE DON’T TURN A CHILD’S HONEST FEELINGS INTO SOMETHING WRONG. ❤️🩹 A young girl expressed gratitude because her stepmother listens to her more than her biological mother. Instead of simply listening to what she was saying, her statement appeared to become a matter for spiritual intervention in front of a church congregation. BUT WHAT HAS THIS LITTLE GIRL DONE WRONG? She didn’t say she hated her mother. She didn’t say her mother was a bad person. She simply appreciated someone who makes her feel heard. SINCE WHEN DID A CHILD EXPRESSING HER FEELINGS BECOME SOMETHING TO BE ASHAMED OF? Parents, sometimes children tell us uncomfortable truths. Our responsibility is not always to defend ourselves. Sometimes we need to listen and learn. And to our church leaders, faith should help families develop love, compassion and understanding. A CHILD SHOULD NEVER FEEL EMBARRASSED FOR HONESTLY EXPRESSING WHO MAKES THEM FEEL LOVED, HEARD AND UNDERSTOOD. This is not about attacking Christianity or disrespecting biological mothers. IT IS ABOUT PROTECTING THE DIGNITY AND EMOTIONAL WELLBEING OF OUR CHILDREN. ❤️ SOMETIMES A CHILD DOESN’T NEED A SPIRITUAL EXPLANATION. THEY JUST NEED AN ADULT WHO WILL LISTEN. #MindShift360 #FamilyTalks #AfricanParents #GhanaianFamilies #ChristianParenting
PARENTS, WHEN SOMEONE LABELS YOUR CHILD NEGATIVELY IN FRONT OF YOU, DON’T WAIT UNTIL YOU GET HOME TO DEFEND THEM. ❤️ In some Ghanaian and African families, adults feel comfortable saying things about children right in front of their parents. “THIS CHILD IS STUBBORN.” “She’s very disrespectful.” “This boy is useless.” “She will never become anything.” And sometimes the parent just laughs, agrees or remains silent because the person speaking is an elder, relative, teacher or respected member of the community. BUT HAVE YOU THOUGHT ABOUT WHAT YOUR CHILD IS LEARNING FROM YOUR SILENCE? 1. CORRECT THE LABEL IMMEDIATELY. You don’t have to insult or embarrass the adult. Simply say: “PLEASE, DON’T DESCRIBE MY CHILD THAT WAY.” Or: “WE CAN DISCUSS HER BEHAVIOUR WITHOUT CALLING HER NAMES.” 2. LET YOUR CHILD HEAR YOU STAND UP FOR THEM. Your child needs to know that being respectful to adults doesn’t mean accepting humiliation. When you calmly challenge an unfair label, you teach your child that their dignity matters. 3. SEPARATE THE CHILD FROM THE BEHAVIOUR. A child who makes a mistake is not automatically a bad child. A child who struggles academically is not useless. A child who asks questions is not necessarily disrespectful. Correct the behaviour without attacking their identity. 4. DON’T CONFUSE RESPECTING ELDERS WITH ALLOWING THEM TO HURT YOUR CHILD’S CONFIDENCE. You can respect an elder and still disagree with what they say. And if your child genuinely behaved wrongly, you can address that appropriately without allowing degrading language. Parents, imagine how powerful it is for your child to hear you say: “MY CHILD MAY HAVE MADE A MISTAKE, BUT PLEASE DON’T SPEAK ABOUT THEM THAT WAY.” That moment may stay with them for years. YOUR CHILD SHOULD NOT HAVE TO DEFEND THEIR DIGNITY ALONE WHILE YOU STAND BESIDE THEM IN SILENCE. ❤️ SOMETIMES THE MOST IMPORTANT THING YOUR CHILD NEEDS TO HEAR IS NOT WHAT YOU SAY TO THEM, BUT WHAT YOU ARE WILLING TO SAY FOR THEM. #MindShift360 #FamilyTalks #AfricanParents #GhanaianFamilies #Parenting
YOUNG PEOPLE, YOU CANNOT BUILD A BETTER LIFE WHILE HOLDING ON TO THE SAME MINDSET THAT KEEPS YOU STUCK. 🧠❤️ One thing I want young Ghanaians and Africans to understand is that YOUR MINDSET INFLUENCES HOW YOU RESPOND TO LIFE, OPPORTUNITIES AND CHALLENGES. You can change your environment. Move to another country. Get a university degree. Find a better job. Start a business. Meet successful people. But if you are unwilling to learn, adapt, take responsibility and challenge your own beliefs, you may continue repeating the same patterns. 1. YOUR MINDSET AFFECTS HOW YOU HANDLE MONEY. 💰 A fixed mindset says: “I don’t earn enough, so there’s nothing I can do.” A growth mindset asks: “What financial habits can I improve with what I currently have, and how can I increase my earning opportunities?” 2. YOUR MINDSET AFFECTS YOUR CAREER. 💼 A fixed mindset says: “There are no opportunities in Ghana.” A growth mindset asks: “What skills are people looking for? What problems can I solve? Where can I find opportunities?” Yes, unemployment and economic difficulties are real. But your response to those challenges still matters. 3. YOUR MINDSET AFFECTS YOUR RELATIONSHIPS. ❤️ A fixed mindset says: “This is just how I am. People must accept me.” A growth mindset asks: “How can I communicate better, manage my emotions and become a healthier partner?” 4. YOUR MINDSET AFFECTS YOUR EDUCATION. 📚 A fixed mindset says: “I’m not intelligent enough.” A growth mindset says: “I may not understand this yet, but I can learn with practice, guidance and effort.” 5. YOUR MINDSET AFFECTS HOW YOU RESPOND TO YOUR UPBRINGING. A fixed mindset says: “My parents raised me this way, so I cannot change.” A growth mindset asks: “What did I learn growing up, what is worth keeping, and what do I need to do differently?” 6. YOUR MINDSET AFFECTS HOW YOU HANDLE FAILURE. A fixed mindset sees failure as proof that nothing will work. A growth mindset treats setbacks as opportunities to examine what went wrong, learn and try a better approach. Young people, positive thinking alone will not solve unemployment, poverty, discrimination or every difficulty in society. BUT NEGATIVE THINKING, REFUSAL TO LEARN AND UNWILLINGNESS TO TAKE ACTION CAN MAKE AN ALREADY DIFFICULT SITUATION EVEN HARDER. A growth mindset is not pretending that everything is possible. It is recognising that your abilities, knowledge, habits and decisions can improve through learning, effort, support and experience. And sometimes the first change you need is not a new job, a new country, a new relationship or more money. IT IS A NEW WAY OF THINKING ABOUT WHAT YOU CAN LEARN, CHANGE AND BUILD FROM WHERE YOU ARE. YOU MAY NOT CONTROL THE SYSTEM YOU WERE BORN INTO, BUT YOU CAN WORK ON DEVELOPING THE MINDSET, SKILLS AND RESPONSIBILITY TO NAVIGATE IT MORE EFFECTIVELY. ❤️ BEFORE YOU ASK LIFE TO GIVE YOU SOMETHING DIFFERENT, ASK YOURSELF WHAT YOU ARE WILLING TO LEARN AND DO DIFFERENTLY. #MindShift360 #BelieveShiftRise #GrowthMindset #AfricanYouth #GhanaianYouth
