Alleged Security Breach: Court Grants El-Rufai N100m Bail With Stringent Conditions A Federal High Court in Abuja has granted bail to former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, in the sum of ₦100 million with one surety in like sum, over alleged unlawful interception of the telephone communications of National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu. El-Rufai pleaded not guilty to the charges under the Cybercrimes Act. Ruling Details: Justice Joyce Abdulmalik delivered the ruling on Monday, May 18, 2026. While admitting El-Rufai to bail, the court imposed stringent conditions that must be fully met before his release. Alleged Bail Conditions for El-Rufai: - Deposit all valid international passports with the court registry. He must also seek the court’s permission before any travel outside Nigeria. Surety Requirements (One Surety in the Sum of ₦100 Million):The surety must be a federal civil servant not below Grade Level 17. - The surety must reside in either Maitama or Asokoro districts of Abuja. - Deposit the original Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) of a landed property at the court registry. - Provide evidence of salary payments for at least three months, authenticated by a letter from the branch bank manager within the court’s jurisdiction. - Depose to an affidavit of means. - Enter into a bail bond. - Submit a recent passport photograph to the court registry. - Provide a verification letter from the surety’s immediate department
